MusicIP Mixer v.1.8 by the MusicIP Corporation

Well after a long and relentless search for a decent playlist generator for Mac, not only did I finally find one, but it’s not just for Mac and it’s not just a generator. MusicIP Mixer is a cross-platform application for Mac, Windows and Linux. That’s probably why I haven’t heard of this masterfully designed SWEET iTunes companion before now. After being sorely disappointed with Potion Factory’s Tangerine, I completely threw aside everything so that I could search for something similar, but that actually worked. I know that BubbleBean may seem a bit off-the-shelf, but there’s a story there. What’s the story Morning Glory, I mean “Tangerine”? Who ever heard of a tangerine being a magical playlist generator? Me either, I guess that’s the magical part.

Enough of the code bashing, I’m sure their thoughts were in the right place, two steps from my checkbook. LOL Now, will the real magical juicer please stand up? MusicIP Mixer has got to be the best I’ve seen or used. It’s not complex. It does exactly what it says it will do and wow, I’ve got playlists that I am actually enjoying. After the Mixer analyzes your entire iTunes library, or while it’s in the process, all you have to do is select a song from the Mixer’s library and press Mix. Then save as a new playlist, name it and control click to copy it to iTunes. That simple. And the most excellent part, it’s my choice whether I’d like them anywhere near my checkbook!

The MusicIP Corporation offers the basic edition to all of us for free. And that’s not all you get. The MusicIP Mixer also lists free music for your listening or even downloading enjoyment. When I looked at the additional premium features, I decided that the basic was well over what I had expected. For something that works this well and provides free downloadable music, I would have gladly paid a handsome fee. And if I decide that I’d like playlists larger than 75 songs, I’ll fork over the $20, gladly. I may even send them a christmas card!

I’m just curious why this absolutely fabulous, functioning application hasn’t made it to more Macs. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed. (link) And, don’t forget to subscribe to their “new music” RSS feed.
